The world’s top emerging technology companies are competing in Las Vegas at the National Association of Broadcasters Show this week.
Thirty market-ready companies were chosen based on their potential to disrupt the media and entertainment industries to be showcased in the SPROCKIT program.
The program, whose motto is “fostering innovation,” gives them a platform to pitch their ideas in front of the swarms of show attendees and industry executives.
“SPROCKIT showcases today’s media and entertainment entrepreneurs to the industry’s iconic companies. Together, they form the industry’s exclusive platform, bringing the most innovative products, services, and revenue models to market,” the company’s website says.
Each company is given a setup, called a “pod,” near the stage to display their work to nearly 100,000 showgoers.
Each company makes a five-minute pitch followed by audience questions.
This year, corporate members include Fox Networks Group, Comcast, Google and NBC Universal. Innovators have the potential to meet with leaders from these companies throughout their showcase.
In between the company pitches, representatives from some corporate members take the stage to discuss industry issues.
About a hundred guests surrounded the “SPROCKIT hub” Tuesday morning, listening to the Google panel cover advertising and cross-media sales.
Teaching advertisers how to get more hits online than viewership of videos of skateboarding cats and reaching the millennial generation were just two of the topics brought up during the discussion.
Presentations began Monday, and the top companies are chosen by online voting.
