What a year!
The SPROCKIT community soared to new heights in 2018 from the inaugural SPROCKIT Suite in Las Vegas during CES to the final Sync of the year hosted by Samsung NEXT in New York and everything in between.
SPROCKIT’s success is a direct result of the success within our community. Thank you for helping SPROCKIT rock-it in 2018. We look forward to collaborating and innovating even more in the new year.
Below, find highlights from the year, including how SPROCKITeers worked together to help us shine at NAB Show 2018, how TEGNA makes the most of its membership or how one SPROCKIT alumnus, SpherePlay, completely reoriented his business model using direct feedback from Sync.
January: CES 2018
SPROCKIT kicked off 2018 with The SPROCKIT Startup Suite at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. The event featured 10 breakthrough media, entertainment and tech SPROCKIT startups, and C-suite peers from Google, Samsung, Verizon, Turner, TEGNA, FOX, Hearst, Univision, Roku, NFL, NBA and the National Association of Broadcasters.
Throughout the day, the room discussed some of the industry’s biggest pain points, including video advertising, content discover, and audio & video workflow.

February: SPROCKIT Sync LA

April: SPROCKIT Hub @ NAB Show
What a week at NAB Show Las Vegas! While the desert dust settles from another amazing SPROCKIT Hub, we wanted to thank those who helped make this event such a success and relive some of the highlights along the way.
See for yourself the collaboration that went down at NAB Show 2018.
One of our core goals at SPROCKIT is to foster collaboration. SPROCKIT’s Evening at the 2018 Be Bold Dress for Success Gala
SPROCKIT had the honor of supporting the Be Bold Dress for Success Gala in New York City on April 18. Dress for Success provides women with a fierce outer shell to be “be bold” and the necessary tools to back up that power suit with inner confidence. SPROCKIT knows the power of being bold. Our startups, corporate partners and thought leaders are all trailblazers in the media, entertainment and tech space. Read about our night out at Dress for Success.

July: SPROCKIT in Silicon Valley
This summer, SPROCKIT took Silicon Valley by storm with two days of connection, collaboration and wine galore! Starting at R&W Vineyards, startups, corporate innovators and thought leaders convened to taste wine and talk candidly in a casual and inspiring atmosphere. Andreessen Horowitz hosted a private event for SPROCKIT corporate innovators featuring presentations and conversations with Andreessen Horowitz partner Benedict Evans, as well as an interview with a16z portfolio company Overtime’s founder Anis Rashid. We followed the wine with our day-long Sync event hosted by Google. Read the full recap of events here.
Google graciously hosted SPROCKIT Sync SV — for a second year in a row — for our current class of SPROCKIT startups and alumni. Read what Google’s Head of News and Local Media Partnerships, Chrissy Towle, had to say about this year’s event in a note from our SPROCKIT Sync SV hosts at Google.
September: Getting the Most Out of SPROCKIT
In the month when kids start going back to school, SPROCKIT startup AlertMe and corporate innovator Tegna shared how they get the most out of the SPROCKIT experience.
For AlertMe, it was all about validation. For AlertMe, that validation came over a wild 10 days of July 2017. Read what CEO Adam Shapiro says is the key to success with the SPROCKIT community.
Standout member in the SPROCKIT community, former TEGNA VP, Digital Audience Engagement Frank Mungeam also shared how Corporate Innovators find value in the community.
October: SPROCKIT Sync NY
SPROCKIT’s market-proven startups, change-making corporate innovators, and select thought leaders and special guests from around the world gathered in the Big Apple for the final SPROCKIT Sync of the year. Graciously hosted by Samsung NEXT at Samsung 837 in New York, attendees shared thoughts and ideas on the future of AR/VR, engaged in thought-provoking discussions about OTT platforms during breakout sessions, and finished with a panel discussion on the world of sports and engaging its audience.
One of the many benefits of the SPROCKIT community for our startups is the honest feedback from corporate innovators. Sync events, especially, provide a unique environment where deals get done and truthful opinions get shared. SPROCKIT alumnus SpherePlay took some harsh criticism during its first Sync and restructured its product to be one of the hottest meeting requests at SPROCKIT Sync NY. Read about what happens when SPROCKIT destroys a company to the delight of its CEO.
We’re thrilled to introduce the new startup referral program. To our current members, for every startup you recommend that successfully joins SPROCKIT, you can receive toward any alumni package that calendar year. There’s no limit to how many credits you can accumulate. Refer away!
