SPROCKIT Sync NY – a Whirlwind in the Big Apple
Once again SPROCKIT’s market-proven startups, change-making corporate innovators and select thought leaders and special guests from around the world gathered in the Big Apple for the final SPROCKIT Sync of the year. Graciously hosted by Samsung NEXT at Samsung 837 in New York, attendees shared thoughts and ideas on the future of AR/VR, engaged in thought-provoking discussions about OTT platforms during breakout sessions and finished with a panel discussion on the world of sports and engaging its audience.
Continuing the traditions of SPROCKIT Syncs, startups and corporate innovators connected for 1:1 meetings and debated the biggest issues facing the media, entertainment and technology industries in our breakout sessions.
In the morning, Samsung NEXT’s Jacob Loewenstein, who leads AR/VR investments, shared what he sees next in the world of AR/VR. As he noted, The technology is coming and we must work on the solution now. Our own SpherePlay and Seek SPROCKIT members can confirm that the best is yet to come.
The afternoon breakout sessions allowed individual tables to engage on hot topic issues, from Artificial Intelligence to Blockchain for Media. The readout sparked a lively discussion on the future of curated content like that provided by Netflix and Disney’s new platform as well as how to keep the audience attention when looking to monetize content.
The afternoon featured a panel on engaging and growing audiences in the sports vertical with panelists: Joe Perello, CEO, Props and former VP Marketing, NY Yankees; Dan Donnelly, EVP, MD Publicis Media Sports; Jasmine Robinson, Director, Causeway Partners. SPROCKIT thought leader and CEO of Big Block Tom Flanagan moderated the discussion on the trends in sports audience engagement. The key, Joe Perello shared, is to get outside of the context of rights and into the context of going where the fans want to connect.
We ended the day, in tradition, honoring our graduating SPROCKITeers. Newly-minted alumnus SpherePlay, shared their story of how the trusting SPROCKIT community tore into the company during their first Sync in LA and helped them come back stronger with new vertical into the Ad Tech world. Other graduating SPROCKITeers included voice activation company SpokenLayer and Liftigniter, who specializes in predictive analytics.
We had such a productive meeting, we cannot wait until 2019!
